What We Do

Chimney & Masonry Services in Alhambra

Two trades under one roof — the flue and firebox inside, and the brickwork outside. All of it done by our own crews, never subcontracted out.

Technician sweeping a fireplace flue with a vacuum in an Alhambra home

Chimney Sweeping & Creosote Removal

Occasional fires burned low and slow leave more tar in a flue than regular hot ones — which is exactly how most valley households burn. We brush it out and vacuum every particle.

  • Full flue brushed top to bottom
  • Firebox, damper and smoke shelf cleared
  • Sealed HEPA vacuum running throughout

Chimney Repair & Rebuilding

Loose brick near the top, a stack that has shifted, cracks stepping through the mortar joints. We rebuild from the roofline up, matching the original brick and bond.

Tuckpointing & Brick Restoration

If you can pull mortar out of a joint with a fingernail, water is already getting behind the brick. We grind the failed joints out and repack them with a colour-matched mix.

  • Joints raked back to sound mortar
  • Colour, texture and profile matched
  • Softer mixes for pre-war brickwork

Caps, Crowns & Spark Arrestors

An uncapped flue takes in rain, embers on a windy October night, and every squirrel on the block. The crown underneath the cap is the part almost nobody checks.

  • Stainless spark arrestors to California code
  • Single and multi-flue caps for duplexes
  • Cast concrete crown replacement

Liners & Gas Fireplace Conversion

Cracked clay tiles or an unlined flue vent carbon monoxide into the house. And with no-burn days through the winter, a lot of neighbours simply switch to gas and stop worrying about it.

  • Stainless liner installation and relining
  • Gas log sets and sealed inserts
  • Furnace and water heater flue venting

Leaks, Flashing & Waterproofing

It hardly rains and then it pours, and the first storm of the season finds every flaw. A stain on the ceiling is rarely leaking where you can see it.

  • Step and counter flashing replacement
  • Crown sealing and crack repair
  • Breathable masonry water repellent

Seven Things Alhambra Homeowners Call Us About

None of these fix themselves, and all of them are cheaper to deal with early. Looking costs you nothing.

  • Mortar you can scratch outIf a key or a fingernail takes the joint apart, water is already behind the brick.
  • Cracks stepping through the jointsThe diagonal staircase pattern is movement, not wear. It needs looking at.
  • Smoke coming back into the roomBlocked flue, closed damper or poor draft — and a carbon monoxide risk either way.
  • A stain on the wall by the fireplaceNearly always a cracked crown or failed flashing, not the roof itself.
  • White powder on the brickEfflorescence — salts carried out by moisture trapped inside the masonry.
  • Loose brick or grit on the roofThe stack is shedding. Sun and sprinkler overspray do this to old brick.
  • Nobody has ever looked up itPlenty of valley chimneys have gone forty years without an inspection. Yours may be one.

After a noticeable earthquake, have the chimney checked before the next fire. Damage above the roofline and inside the flue is almost never visible from the yard.

What San Gabriel Valley Homeowners Say

Three recent jobs, in the customers' own words.

We hired this company for a chimney repair after noticing some cracked mortar and loose bricks near the top. The crew showed up on time, explained what needed to be fixed, and gave us a clear price before starting. They worked carefully and cleaned everything up when they were finished. The chimney looks solid again, and the whole experience was easy from start to finish.

Chimney repair & loose brickAlhambra, CA · Google Review

I called them to have our chimney cleaned before we started using the fireplace for the winter. Scheduling was easy, and the technician arrived right when expected. He was friendly, worked neatly, and even showed me what had built up inside the chimney. There was no mess left behind at all. Really happy with the service and will definitely use them again next year.

Pre-winter chimney sweepAlhambra, CA · Google Review

We needed some masonry work done on the brick steps in front of our house because several joints were crumbling. They did a great job matching the existing mortar, and the finished repair blends in much better than I expected. Everyone was polite, professional, and easy to communicate with. The steps look great now, and I'm very pleased with how the entire job turned out.

Straight Answers

Alhambra Chimney Questions, Answered

Do you charge for estimates?

No. We come out, look at the chimney or the brickwork, explain what needs doing and hand you a written price before any work starts. No charge for the visit, no obligation to book, and nothing decided while we're standing on your porch.

How often should a chimney be swept around here?

Inspect annually; sweep once creosote reaches about an eighth of an inch. Because no-burn days limit wood burning through the winter, plenty of Alhambra households burn only a handful of fires a season and go two or three years between sweeps. The yearly inspection still matters — blockages, cracked flue tiles and masonry damage happen whether you burn or not.

What are no-burn days, and do they affect me?

From November through February, South Coast AQMD issues no-burn alerts on days when particulate levels are forecast to be high, and residential wood burning is restricted across the air basin on those days. Gas log sets and approved gas inserts aren't affected — which is exactly why so many valley homeowners convert. Check the current alert before lighting a wood fire.

Can you convert my wood fireplace to gas?

Yes. We fit gas log sets and sealed gas inserts, run or reline the venting, and size the flue correctly for the appliance. It sidesteps no-burn restrictions, ends the creosote problem completely, and takes most of the maintenance out of owning a fireplace.

Do you do brickwork that isn't a chimney?

A lot of it. Front steps and porches, garden and retaining walls, planters, barbecues, pilasters and mailbox piers. Same trade, same mortar matching — some weeks we do more repointing on 1920s bungalow steps than we do on roofs.

Can an earthquake have damaged my chimney?

Very possibly. Older unreinforced brick chimneys are the most fragile thing on a San Gabriel Valley house, and the damage is usually quiet — stair-step cracks through the mortar, a gap where the stack meets the wall, brick sitting out of plumb above the roofline, cracked flue tiles inside. Almost none of it shows from the ground.

Do you work on rentals and multi-unit buildings?

Regularly. Alhambra is full of duplexes, fourplexes and income properties, and we deal with multi-flue stacks, shared chimneys, tenant-occupied units and the paperwork owners and property managers need. Scheduling around tenants is routine for us.

Can you inspect a chimney for a home sale?

Yes, we do plenty of escrow work. Transactions call for a Level 2 inspection including a camera scan of the flue interior, and you get a documented report with photographs suitable for negotiation, usually within a day of the visit.
